PlayStation controllers have evolved a lot since the original PlayStation was released in 1994. The first controller was pretty straightforward, without analog sticks, and it set the stage for Sony's signature controller design—symmetrical shape, directional buttons on the left, and four iconic face buttons on the right (Square, Triangle, Circle, and Cross).
